SYNOPSIS

The Remains of the Shipwreck is the new creation by ROPA / Roberto Olivan Performing Arts. This is a collaborative project between Italy, Spain, and Cuba.

After an itinerant residency process over several months in Cuba, Spain, and Italy—where the entire creative team engaged directly with local realities both choreographically and musically—the piece The Remains of the Shipwreck was born.

This ambitious collaborative project brings together artists from the three countries with the aim of exploring cultural synergies and merging the essences of their rich traditions. The resulting fusion opens up new creative possibilities, always respecting the cultural context of origin and contributing to a contemporary and enriching interpretation of each place’s heritage.

The main interest of The Remains of the Shipwreck does not lie in exploring cultural incompatibilities, but rather in focusing on the contrast and convergence of these traditions. This approach brings a wealth of nuance and enables the creation of new interpretive possibilities. In a globalized context, cultural differences overlap and stratify, forming layers that offer multiple readings and experiences.

A fundamental aspect of the piece is its interaction with the local community during the research, creation, and performance phases. Through meetings and lab-style activities—as was the case during the creative process in Cuba—the project fosters exchange and permeability among different human sensibilities, further enriching the artistic experience.

The Remains of the Shipwreck does not aim to offer definitive answers, but rather multiple interpretations and perspectives. In this artistic and human journey, there is no absolute truth—only the will to bring forth as many viewpoints as possible.
